I’ve written about how much I adore my engagement ring and I’ve shared the story of Seersucker’s very special wedding band. But, there is one ring story left to tell. This is, by far, the strangest tradition that will be part of our big day.
The hair ring is a German tradition where human hair is woven and set into a band. The ring is worn to honor the memory of a loved one.
My mom and dad used our family hair ring (seriously, how yucky is that name?) at their wedding ceremony. So Seersucker and I will use it too. I will swap it out for my sparkly band just as soon as the ceremony is over.
While we aren’t sure how long this ring has been around (or whose hair is actually in the ring), we know for sure that my grandfather’s grandmother, Anne Wagner, had it.
I’m honored to be able to share in this family tradition, no matter how strange it is. It is a special thing to have that much history with us when we exchange our rings, 31 days from today.
